Mother’s Day is Sunday, 10 May 2026. If you’ve tried to order a premium cake in Sydney for that weekend before, you probably already know that the good options fill fast. Most handmade bakeries can only get through so many cakes in a day, and by mid-April the popular slots are already going.
This is a practical guide to getting it right, choosing a cake she’ll actually love, and not leaving it so late that the decision is made for you.
Why Sydney’s best cakes book out early
At ENZE, every cake is baked to order on the day it’s collected. We don’t freeze finished cakes or defrost them for the display. That means our kitchen has a real daily limit, and once a date fills up, it’s closed. Both our Top Ryde City and Barangaroo locations run this way, and peak dates around Mother’s Day go faster than most people expect.
What makes a Mother’s Day cake worth thinking about
It’s not quite the same as a birthday cake. A few things matter more than usual.
It needs to travel. Most people aren’t collecting and serving within the hour, the cake will be in a car, maybe sitting on the bench for part of the afternoon. Chiffon holds up well for a few hours, which covers most Mother’s Day scenarios without issue. It’s not quite as forgiving as a buttercream cake on a long journey, but for the typical collect-and-serve window it’s fine.
It will get photographed. Probably before anyone gets a slice. How it looks on the table matters.
And it’s usually eaten after a long lunch, not instead of one. A heavy cake at the end of a big meal is too much. Chiffon is light enough that people actually want a second slice.
Where to order from
We take pre-orders at both ENZE locations:
-
ENZE Top Ryde — Ryde, Eastwood, Epping, and the North Sydney corridor.
-
ENZE Barangaroo — CBD, Pyrmont, Inner West, and Eastern Suburbs.
Same-day pick-up is available at both, though we’d suggest booking ahead rather than assuming there’ll be space on the day. Next-day Sydney delivery is also available within our service zones. And if you’re planning ahead, we take pre-orders up to 90 days in advance, so there’s no real reason to wait on it.
What’s in the 2026 collection
-
Lavender Coconut Cake — Soft vanilla chiffon with lavender-infused coconut chantilly, finished with intricate floral piping. Our hero flavour for this year.
-
Mint & Choc Cream Cake — Chocolate sponge, dark ganache, cool mint cream, Lambeth-style piping.
-
Strawberry Mochi Cake — Vanilla chiffon, fresh strawberries, handmade mochi ribbons and cultured cream.
-
Classic Taro Cake and Matcha Cake — For those who prefer something earthier and less sweet.
Every cake comes with a gift card for your message. A custom chocolate plaque can be added at checkout if you’d like to personalise it further.
When to order
Ordering by Sunday 3rd May gives you the full range to choose from and most collection times still available. By Wednesday 6th May it starts to narrow. After Friday 8th May it’s waitlist only.
Booking early just means more options for the flavour, the size, and the time you want to collect.
If you’ve left it to the last minute
It happens to everyone. Please call us on the day. As our kitchens put a few extra aside each year for walk-ins and late calls. We can’t always make it work, but we’ll do what we can.
Pre-orders are open now at enze.com.au. If you’re sending the cake directly to mum, add her address at checkout and we’ll include a gift card with whatever message you’d like to leave her.
ENZE is a Sydney-based premium chiffon cake brand founded by pastry chef Stella. We have made-to-order kitchens at Top Ryde City and Barangaroo.
